Welcome! My name is Elisabeth and I’m a Newborn Care Specialist based in beautiful Capitol Hill. I’ve lived and worked here since 2012 and I love supporting growing DC families! After graduating from Wellesley College with a classics degree, I started my career as an infant teacher in a daycare, before switching over to infant and toddler nannying and ultimately studying to become an NCS. Over the past 10 years, I’ve worked with dozens of babies, including preemies, multiples, and children with medical needs and developmental delays, and each one has taught me new lessons and skills.

I’m practiced in Montessori and RIE philosophies, as well as babywearing, cloth diapering, baby sign language, and other alternative and eco-friendly parenting choices. I also run a blog called Play Based Kids where I post articles about play based learning, crunchy parenting, nature experiences for children, and other topics. In my free time, I volunteer at the Folger Shakespeare Library and as a Smithsonian docent, and enjoy gardening, cooking, and knitting.

My NCS training is from Newborn Care Solutions, I am First Aid/CPR certified through the American Heart Association, and I am up to date on all vaccines, including flu, TDaP, and MMR.

If you’re interested in hiring me as a Newborn Care Specialist, please get in touch at playbasedkids@gmail.com or use the contact form linked below.
